No one is saying that “Game of Thrones” fans don’t have active sex lives, but they certainly appear to watch a lot of pornography.
Porn provider Pornhub.com reports that their site’s traffic was down 4.5% on Sunday night when HBO aired the popular fantasy series’ highly anticipated Season 7 premiere.
“That’s a considerable change in visitors as Sunday night is one of the most popular times for people to visit Pornhub,” according to a statement from the site’s publicist Chris Jackson. Pornhub.com also reported a 4% drop when Season 6 of “GoT” premiered in April 2016.
HBO reports that 16.1 million viewers tuned into the “GoT” Season 7 premiere, which makes it the 44-year-old pay channel’s most-watched series debut to date. The network reports that 10.1 million of those viewers watched it live while the other 6 million opted for non-linear viewing options like DVR and streaming. Overall, according to HBO, Sunday’s viewership doubled that of the “GoT’s” 2016 premiere.
Pornhub, which is reportedly the largest pornography site on the internet, celebrated its ten-year anniversary in May. In June, New York magazine ran a cover of the story about the site’s comprehensive analytics and called Pornhub “The Kinsey Report of our Time.”
Pornhub’s rep did not respond to requests for further comment.
