Get in My Belly!! A new study says most American men are “overfat,” and most American women are not far behind, Overfat refers to having excess body fat that can pose a threat to health. And the study authors from Australia and New Zealand said it’s a separate term from measures of body mass — in other words, even normal-weight people can be overfat.
A good way to check? Does your waist measure more than half your height? If so, you may be overfat. Excess body fat, especially abdominal fat, increases the risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease, as well as death, the researchers said.
In the United States and 29 other developed countries, up to 90 percent of men, 80 percent of women and 50 percent of children are overfat, according to the study in the journal Frontiers in Public Health.
