One of the best highlights from college football on Saturday had nothing to do with the game and everything to do with love and admiration.
Between the third and fourth quarters of the Florida Gators taking on the LSU Tigers, a packed Ben Hill Griffin Stadium sang Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down” in tribute to the legendary musician, who died Monday. The stadium holds 90,000.
“This one’s for you, @TomPetty,” the Gators’ official account tweeted.
Tiger Rag editor Cody Worsham told The Hollywood Reporter the singing was spontaneous. “Clearly every fan in the building knew every word,” said Worsham.
Petty was born in Gainesville, Florida, and briefly worked on the grounds crew at the University of Florida.
