What Do Santa Claus, Punching and The Act of Tipping Have in Common?

The City that gave us Rocky Balboa…also pelted Santa Claus with snowballs.

The city we lovingly refer to as the “City of Brotherly Love”…is the same city where fans of sports teams have fought with players of those sports. During the games they were playing.

The city that is home to Benjamin Franklin and the Liberty Bell…is also home to the guy who vomited on an 11-year-old-girl…on purpose.

PHILADELPHIA! Yes, all of those things refer to the Pennsylvania city of Philadelphia. Now, they will absolutely boo you into oblivian even if you are their number one draft pick…just ask Donovan McNabb…but they appareantly will also reward you more than anyone else if you serve them food or beverage. In a survey out now stating that Philadelphians ar the best tippers in the United States. The average tip in Philadelphia is 20.3% surpassing last years average of 19.9% and well above the national average of 18.1%.

Before you ask…yes, that is low. I was taught that 20% is minimum. To think that the national average is below that…twhile close…is a littel disheartening. And to find out that the city that is best known for pelting Santa Claus with ice balls and batteries (D cell batteries to be exact) is the most generous to the servers in our country is a little MORE disheartening.

Do yourself a favor…tip better. Those people work long hours at thankless jobs and 90% of the time it’s not their fault the service is bad.
