The Seattle Seahawks were set to host free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick for a visit this week, but they reportedly postponed the meeting because Kaepernick will not commit to standing during the national anthem in 2018.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Kaepernick refused to assure the Seahawks that his days of political demonstrations during the anthem are behind him.
When he was looking for a team to sign him last year, Kaepernick said that he would no longer be kneeling during “The Star-Spangled Banner.” A lot has obviously changed since then, including Kaepernick filing a collusion claim against the NFL.
We have already heard a report this week that at least one NFL team owner plans to ban anthem protests next season, and it sounds as if he is not alone. If the Seahawks truly cancelled Kaepernick’s workout because he didn’t guarantee them he’s done protesting, that would support his case that the anthem protests are the only reason he remains unemployed.
