Four-star wide receiver Jacob Copeland chose the Florida Gators on Wednesday over Alabama and Tennessee. The entire gym in Pensacola applauded the announcement … except for one person.
It was Copeland’s mother.
As Copeland announced that he would take his football services to Gainesville in the fall, Copeland’s mom — wearing an Alabama shirt and Tennessee hat — simply shook her head, stood up and left the ceremony.
The announcement was broadcasted live on ESPNU’s signing day special, which made for an awkward TV moment.
To his credit, though, Copeland handled that tough moment exceptionally well and kept his cool as his mother left. It wouldn’t have been the first time a mother disapproved of a signing-day decision.
His mom did return to give Copeland a hug.
