Authorities in Okaloosa County plan to arrest a man who they say took off all his clothes and ran naked around outside of the Santa Rosa Mall and through surrounding neighborhoods.
According to an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office offense report, on Aug. 3 witnesses say a man took off all his clothes while walking on Oxford Court in Mary Esther and then began to run around the mall’s parking lot, jumping on light poles and “yelling unintelligible words.”
Witnesses originally told sheriff’s deputies the man entered the mall and ran around, but that was later found to be false.
When deputies arrived, the man fled and was found in a nearby ditch.
Authorities tried to restrain the man but he kept trying to pull away. When a deputy tried to ask him questions, he “could only respond with a whooping sound.” The deputy believed he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The man was eventually detained and taken to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center under the Marchman Act, in which a person is involuntarily committed to a medical facility for substance abuse evaluation and treatment.
His identification was found in the pile of clothes he left in a woman’s yard nearby.
Deputies intend to charge him with lewd or indecent exposure, according to the offense report.
The man’s name and identifying information were redacted from the report.
